Getting Started

Prayer is talking to God. In the way we can talk to a parent or friend so we can talk to God. In the Bible Jesus said, ‘This is how you should pray – Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.....’ This is known as the Lord’s Prayer (for complete version see below).

Prayer can be done alone, in twos, small or large gatherings. It can be in a private place, at home, in the street, at the shops, in the workplace, in fact – everywhere.

Prayer can often be brief – in the form of ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ or ‘sorry’. It can also be a time of extended quiet, waiting and listening. Pray what ever you feel. We believe God wants to hear from us – whatever the situation – because he loves us.

The Lord’s Prayer (Modern form)
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power,
And the glory are yours
Now and forever. Amen
